Consider applying to be a Residence Assistant (RA) for the 2026-2027 Academic Year!  

The Deadline for RA Applications is Thursday, February 12, 2026 at 12:00 noon, and documents are submitted online.

We also recommend that you attend one of our in-person or virtual RA Application Q&A Sessions taking place on January 28th , January 30th, and February 7th. This is an opportunity to see a short presentation and ask questions about the RA position, and the hiring process, with members of the RA Selection Committee and current RAs. 

 

Application:  

The RA Application consists of four (4) parts:

1. Current Resume (format to be determined by the applicant)

2. RA Personal Statement  (download to your computer to edit)

3. RA Applicant Schedule*

4. RA Recommendation Forms

*Note: Here is a sample of what your completed RA Applicant Schedule should look like.

Once completed, the first three (3) parts of the RA application Package are to be submitted to the RA Selection Committee through the RA Application Package Submission Form. This online Microsoft Form will also ask applicants to provide additional personal information prior to uploading the first three (3) parts of the RA Application Package documents. Applicants will need to log into their official SMU student email account to access the submission form.

 

RA Recommendation Forms are the fourth, and final, part of the RA Application Package. These forms are to be filled out by student peers from the SMU community.   

RA Applicants are required to have at least seven (7) current or former SMU students complete an RA Recommendation form on the behalf. The more students who complete this form, the stronger your application will be. The maximum acceptable number is twelve (12) recommendations. Please provide the link below to the students you ask to complete your RA Recommendation Forms (along with your A# and email address, to ensure their recommendation is accurately assigned to you): RA Recommendation Form (2026-2027).

Note: Please ensure that you provide the correct spelling of your email address to persons completing an RA Recommendation form on your behalf, to ensure that you receive a confirmation email each time a form is submitted.

RA applicants cannot fill out recommendation forms for themselves

Residence Life Student Groups Applications for 2026-27

Are you looking for a leadership opportunity on campus? Become a Residence Life Student Group Leader. Gain valuable experience, develop leadership skills, and make a difference in your community. Each group focuses on different aspects of student life, providing opportunities for engagement, advocacy, and event planning.

Residence Life Student Groups 

Each student group consists of three paid leadership roles:

  • Chair – Leads the team and oversees initiatives.
  • Operations Coordinator – Manages administrative tasks and budgeting.
  • Creative Coordinator – Handles promotions, social media, and outreach.

Multicultural Committee

The Multicultural Committee celebrates diversity and promotes cultural awareness within residence. Through events, discussions, and activities, this group fosters an inclusive community where students can share their cultural identities and experiences.

RainBEAU Committee

The RainBEAU Committee creates a welcoming space for students to express and celebrate their gender and sexual orientation. The team organizes events such as Drag Queen Bingo, Pride Panel, Queer Prom, and more.

Res Wellness Team

The Res Wellness Team empowers students to make healthy decisions regarding alcohol, drug use, and self-care. They host workshops, self-care events, and educational booths to promote a balanced lifestyle in residence.

Res Consent Project

The Res Consent Project focuses on educating students about consent, sexual health, and preventing sexualized violence. This team encourages open conversations and creates a culture of respect and safety through events and awareness campaigns.

Res AfterDark Team

The Res AfterDark Team plans late-night, alcohol-free events that provide fun and safe alternatives for students. These events create an engaging residence experience while promoting social connections and well-being.
