Information for Parents & Supporters

Congratulations! If you are reading this, chances are someone you know is preparing to embark on a new and exciting stage of life – their university journey. The transition to university can be an exhilarating and anxious time for first-year students. As a supporter, you play a critical role in helping your student adjust to a new environment with increased freedom and responsibility. Simultaneously, you are guaranteed to have a range of emotions yourself—from pride and excitement to worry.

The Parent and Supporter Guide explores some typical changes and challenges while providing tips on how best to support your student as they begin their Saint Mary's experience.

Please remember that there are many people on campus who can help answer any questions you may have. Do not hesitate to contact us!

Parent & Supporter Orientation:  Saturday, August 30, 1:30 - 3:00 p.m. ADT

Parent and Supporters are invited to attend a 90-minute session that focuses on the common transitions students face when starting university. Supporters will learn more about what to expect, what services and supports Saint Mary's provides and tips for how to support your student during their first year of study. Guests will also receive a copy of SMU's Parent and Supporter Guide to the First Year of University. Join us on August 30th, 1:30- 3:00 p.m., in Atrium 101.  To register please RSVP here.

Parent & Supporter Meet and Greet:  Sunday, August 31, 10:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. ADT

The International Student Centre will be hosting a Parent and Supporter Meet & Greet, Sunday, August 31 in the Unilever Lounge (4th Floor Sobey Building). Parents and Supporters are invited to join and earn about the many services available to students at Saint Mary's University and what your student would experience while at university.  Join us on Sunday, August 31, 10:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. ADT.
